India recorded 1,72,433 new COVID-19 cases and 1,008 deaths in last 24 hours, data from the Union Health Ministry confirmed on Thursday. India’s total infection tally has now reached 4,18,03,318 with the death toll pushed to 4,98,983. 

India recorded 11,047 or 7% more cases than yesterday (1,61,386)

Active cases have declined by 87,682 to 15,33,921 and comprise 3.67% of the total caseload.

2,59,107 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,97,70,414. The national recovery rate stands at 95.14%. The case fatality rate stands at 1.19%. 

Meanwhile, data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed a total of 73,41,92,614 samples have been tests for COVID-19 acorss the country as of February 2, of which 15,69,449 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate has increased from 9.26% yesterday to 10.99%. The weekly positivity rate stands at 12.98%. 

India’s cumulative vaccination tally has reached 1,67,87,93,137 after 55,10,693 doses were administered in the last 24 hours. India’s mass vaccination campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 16 last year.

75% of India’s population had received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as of January 30. The Prime Minister, tagging a tweet by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, congratulated fellow citizens for this “momentous feat” and said he is proud of all those who are making the vaccination drive a success.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20,00,000 mark on August 7, 2020, 30,00,000 on August 23, 40,00,000 on September 5 and 50,00,000 on September 16. It went past 60,00,000 on September 28, 70,00,000 on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90,00,000 on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.
