Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said the Centre has assured 750 Intensive Care Units beds will be made available at the DRDO centre due to the rising COVID-19 cases in Delhi since October 20, news agency ANI reported. The decision was taken in a COVID-19 meeting, which was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, among others.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader added, “while there were a sufficient number of COVID beds in the city, the number of ICU beds were exhausting,” as per ANI.

He also stated that the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted daily in the city will soon be increased to over 1 lakh.

He added that the Central government would also help the Delhi state government to procure BiPAP machines to increase the number of ICU beds at Delhi government facilities, as per ANI.

During the course of the meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asked the Delhi government to double the number of RT-PCR tests conducted in the state.

The BJP leader added, “Mobile Testing Vans of ICMR and Health Ministry to be deployed at vulnerable spots,” as per ANI.

He also said that “Few MCD hospitals will be converted into COVID dedicated hospitals for treatment of COVID patients with mild symptoms.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah took stock of the COVID-19 situation in the capital city of New Delhi, following the sharp rise in coronavirus cases. Delhi had recorded 7,340 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours since Friday and had also posted a record high-spike of 8,593 cases on Wednesday.
