Throughout the day, your skin is exposed to several external factors, such as sunlight, wind and dust. A good skincare regime before bed can help you get rid of toxins and rejuvenate your skin.

If you’re looking for a bit of skincare inspiration, check out these night-time routines.

Step 1: Remove makeup

Going to bed with makeup on is one of the biggest skincare sins. To remove stubborn makeup, massage your face with virgin coconut oil or olive oil and then use a cotton pad to lift off the product. You can also use micellar water which easily breaks down makeup particles so they can be lifted easily. Starting your night-time skincare routine with this step is vital.

Step 2 : Cleansing

Always go for soap-free or cream cleansers to remove any impurities. Cleansers that don’t lather or don’t bubble up remove dirt without stripping away the oils from your skin. Make sure to take your time and massage your face thoroughly with the cleanser, starting with your forehead and gradually moving down your face. Once you’re done, rinse well and remove any residue.

Step 3 : Hydrate

Toners are easy to use, and ones that do not contain alcohol are suitable for all skin types. Apart from re-hydrating your skin after all the oils have been washed off your face during cleansing, it also shrinks pores and removes any dirt that may have been left behind. Pour a little bit on a cotton ball and gently apply all over the face and neck area and allow the skin to absorb the toner before moving on to the next step in your skincare routine.

Step 4 : Eye Care

After you’ve gently cleansed your face, pamper your eyes with a good eye cream. The skin around your eyes is the most sensitive and fragile that’s why a reliable product is a must.

Step 4 : Moisturise

Caring for you skin at night means you have free reign to go to town with the products, however goopy or thick they may be. And good thing, too, as this is usually the case — especially with moisturisers. The consistency of night-time moisturizers may not feel or look aesthetically pleasing to the user, but they make skin soft and supple.

Step 5 : Lip balm

Your lips need the nighttime to heal, too. So don’t skip them in your routine. Wash your lips too when you clean your face, and after drying, apply a heavy or hydrating lip cream or some petroleum jelly before you sleep.
