The
cricketing rivalry of India and Pakistan finds its roots in the political
unrest between the two nations. Every time the two sides clash against each other,
the whole world stops to watch the encounter in all its glory and the teams
never disappoint. At least the Indian contingent always comes home happy in World Cups.

Pakistan have played against each other on twelve occasions in the ICC
T20 World Cup and the traditional 50 over World Cup. The men in blue have not
lost any game to their neighbours and boast a perfect record.
Out of the
seven fixtures in the World Cup, India has won all of the matches. As for the
T20 World Cup, the teams have contested against each other on five occasions with
India winning on four occasions and both sides settling for a tie in one
fixture.

The highest
total put up by the Indian team is 157 (2017).
Whereas the
lowest score put up by India on the board is 119 when they successfully chased
the target in less than 16 overs in an 18-over fixture (2016, shortened due
to delay).

total that Pakistan has managed to score is 152 (2017).

If there is
one man you can always count on to perform against Pakistan then it is Indian
skipper Virat Kohli. He is the fixture’s highest run-getter in the tournament
and has managed to score 169 runs in three games.
Incidentally,
Kohli has never gotten out in the three fixtures he has played in. India will
be hoping that the skipper can lead the side yet again.
On the
other hand, all of Pakistan’s batsmen have put in dismal performances.
The highest
wicket taker for India is legendary pacer Irfan Pathan who managed to bag 6
wickets in three encounters.

As for Pakistan,
the highest wicket taker is Mohammad Asif who took 5 wickets in two matches
against India.
Interestingly,
India have chased the total in the last three encounters having won the toss on
two of those occasions. Their biggest win came in 2012 when India won the match
by 8 wickets.

India’s
most comfortable victory came in 2019 when they beat Pakistan with a margin of
89 runs in Manchester.
The highest
run scorer for India is Sachin Tendulkar who scored 313 runs in five matches
with an average of 78.25.
On the
other hand, Saeed Anwar is Pakistan’s highest scorer with 185 runs scored in
three games.
India’s
most prolific bowler is Venkatesh Prasad who took 8 wickets in just two
matches.

Wahab Riaz is the highest wicket taker. He took 7 wickets in three matches
