The 13th Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, is an Indian economist, academic, and politician. Currently, he represents the state of Rajasthan in the Rajya Sabha.

Singh was the first Sikh prime minister of India and the first to be re-elected after serving a full five-year term. Singh was a member of the Indian National Congress.

Singh migrated to India during India’s partition in 1947 with his family from Gah, West Punjab, in what is today Pakistan. After receiving his doctorate in economics from Oxford, Singh worked for the United Nations from 1966 to 1969. In the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, he was hired as an advisor by Lalit Narayan Mishra subsequently.

In 2004, after the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) came to power, its chairperson Sonia Gandhi unexpectedly relinquished the premiership to Manmohan Singh, who executed several significant legislation and projects.
