Pulsar Fusion Ltd, a nuclear fusion company based out of Bletchley, UK, could have the technology to launch nuclear fusion reactors in space by 2027.
This could be the response to the energy crisis and harnessing nuclear fusion in space could allow rockets to travel further across the solar system.
Pulsar CEO Richard Dinan spoke of the exciting prospect, saying “This is truly a groundbreaking moment taking place on British soil and could be the first innovative steps to transforming not only modern space travel but also how this planet consumes its energy.” He added, “Our tests last year were a great success and paved the way for firing in the UK. These tests are hugely significant and we are proud that this rocket is built completely in Britain”.
The head of the company concluded, “To have a British rocket test run by a private company in the UK is extremely rare.”
While fusion rocket technology would only work in the vacuum of space, Pulsar is pushing the boundaries with hybrid rocket engines.
The CEO also said, “We are extremely proud of these achievements and look forward to expanding our network with the British and European space community with our hardware demonstration later this month in Switzerland”, in the initial stages of the program.
This company is among the few in the world working on high-speed propulsion engines using nuclear fusion.
