A total of 7,919,641 voters on Tuesday will decide the fate of 337 candidates, who are contesting from 40 seats in the third and final phase of Assam assembly elections.  A voter turnout of 82.15% was recorded in Assam till 7 pm. Out of 337 candidates, 25 are women while six seats are reserved for STs and two for SCs. The voting on the 40 assembly seats started at 7 am and will conclude at 6 pm. 

The constituencies going for polls on Tuesday, from Dispur to Chapaguri, are spread across 12 districts, including three in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

In phase 3 Assam elections, BJP minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is up from Jalukbari, BJP’s Chandra Mohan Patowary from Dharampur, BJP’s Siddhartha Bhattacharya from Gauhati East and BJP state chief Ranjeet Kumar Dass is up from Patacharkuchi seat.  On the other hand, AGP’s Phanibhushan Choudhury is contesting from Bongaigaon. 

Out of 40 constituencies, 20 seats will decide the fate of sitting MLAs, which includes eight from Congress, five from BJP and three from AIUDF and BPF, and one from AGP, on Tuesday.

From Assam’s Dispur constituency, Congress’ Manjit Mahanta and NCP’s Hridyananda Gogoi are locked in battle. 

The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
