India’s
2014 England tour hasn’t been a convincing patch of Captain Virat Kohli‘s career. The right-handed batsman, whose performance has always been a work of marvel since the debut, averaged just 13.50 in 10 innings against England in 2014 scoring 1, 8,
25, 0, 39, 28, 0, 7, 6 and 20 in five tests matches. India went on to lose 1-3
after a promising start to the series.

While the 32-year-old bounced back to his form in the next tour to Australia, where he scored 692 runs in four Tests, Kohli accepted that the 2014 tour had a lasting impact on his performance revealing that it was perhaps his desperation to score well which led to his failure.

The Indian captain on Friday opened up about the aftermaths of the 2014 England tour on his mental health and said that he felt like the “loneliest guy in the world”, adding that he had to grapple with depression during that phase.

Kohli made this revelation during a conversation with former England player-turned commentator Mark Nicholas on his ‘Not Just Cricket’ podcast, acknowledging that he has to seek professional help in those ‘testing times’.

“Yes, I suffered from depression, it’s not a great feeling to wake up knowing that you won’t be able to score runs and I think all batsmen have felt that they are not in control of anything at all at some stage of their career,” Virat added.

The Indian captain, however, made discernible alteration to his batting form and his test scores have been off charts ever since. Be it a ODI series or T20, his batting records speak for themselves.

Currently, Kohli is in the bio-secure bubble in Ahmedabad for the third and fourth Test against England. The series is currently level at 1-1 after India bounced back from defeat in the first Test at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
