The ongoing farmers’ protest against the three Central agriculture reform laws entered its 30th day on Friday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi transferred over Rs 18,000 crore to over nine crore beneficiary families, the next installment of financial benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. He interacted with farmers from six states via video conferencing. Meanwhile, The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of 40 farmer unions, are set to hold a meeting today and decide their response to the Centre’s letter on Thursday, inviting for fresh talks on a date of their convenience, PTI reported. However, the farmer unions alleged that the latest invitation to talk were nothing but propaganda and asked to include the scrapping of the three laws in the agenda to resume discussions. At least five previous rounds of talks with the government have failed to yield concrete results as farmers have been camped at various border sites around Delhi, Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur, for over four weeks, demanding all three farm laws to be repealed.
