Filmmaker Nishikant Kamat, 50, died on Monday at a private hospital in Hyderabad. As per reports, he was battling liver cirrhosis.

Kamat directed Bollywood movies like ‘Drishyam’, ‘Madaari’, ‘Force’, and ‘Rocky Handsome’ among others. Apart from direction, he also showed his acting talent in films like ‘Rocky Handsome’ in which he was seen in a negative role and in Marathi film ‘Saatchya Aat Gharat’.

Lai Bhaari

‘Lai Bhaari’ marked the debut of Riteish Deshmukh in Marathi cinema. Salman Khan and Genelia D’Souza also made cameo appearances in this action drama film. The movie, released in 2014, became the highest grossing Marathi film during that time.

Drishyam

‘Drishyam’ is 2015 thriller produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak, Ajit Andhare and Abhishek Pathak. The film is a remake of 2013 Malayalam-language flick of the same name.

The Hindi remake had Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran, and Ishita Dutta in pivotal roles. The film’s popular dialogue “2 October ko yaad hai na kya huya tha” became one of the most talked about trend when it was released.

Madaari

This 2016 social thriller is one of the best movies of Nishikant Kamat. Late actor Irrfan Khan played the lead role in the film that also had Vishesh Bansal, Jimmy Shergill, Tushar Davo and Nitesh Pandey in the lead roles. The plot revolved around a minister’s son who gets kidnapped from his hostel.

Force

Nishikant Kamat made many heads turn with the 2011 movie ‘Force’ starring John Abraham, Genelia D’Souza, and Vidyut Jammwal in lead roles. The movie was a remake of Gautham Menon’s ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ and revolved around a dutiful cop who chases and captures a dreaded criminal.The film’s sequel ‘Force 2’ released in 2016.

Kamat was last seen in Vikramaditya Motwane’s ‘Bhavesh Joshi Superhero’ in a supporting role. The movie starred Harshvardhan Kapoor.

Nishikant Kamat was working on his next, Darbadar, which was expected to release in 2022.
