Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is the richest person in the world with a net worth of $219 billion. Mukesh Ambani, who owns a conglomerate, is Asia’s richest person and ranks 10th in the world, according to the list released by Forbes.

The top three spots on Forbes’ list for 2022 are unchanged from the previous year. Ambani’s overall wealth is $90.7 billion, up 7% from the previous financial year, Forbes reported. Apart from having the highest net worth in India, he is also the tenth richest person in the world, followed by Gautam Adani, who became Asia’s second-richest person after adding $40 billion to his fortune. Both, Ambani and Adani, are vigorously venturing into the green energy industry and have large investments planned. Shiv Nadar, chairman emeritus of HCL Technologies, came in third with a 22 percent increase in his wealth.

Ambani, whose business was built on oil and gas petrochemicals, has set forth a strategy for his Reliance Industries to invest $80 billion in renewable energy over the next 15 years. This includes constructing a new complex in Jamnagar, western India. The complex will be named after his late father and Reliance founder Dhirubhai Ambani, and would consist of four large factories near the company’s oil refinery.

Some other names who made it to the Forbes list of India’s richest billionaires, included Radhakishan Damani( $20 billion), Cyrus Poonawalla ($24.3 billion), Savitri Jindal  ($17.7 billion), Lakshmi Mittal ($17.9 billion), Kumar Birla ($16.5 billion), Dilip Shanghvi ($15.6 billion) and Uday Kotak ($14.3 billion).

The list of the world’s ten wealthiest billionaires was released by Forbes on Tuesday, and the number of India’s richest persons increased to 166 from last year, owing to record IPO fundraising.

In addition, their total wealth reached $750 billion, up 26% from the last year, Forbes reported.
