Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan on Wednesday said
that the inclusion of off-spinner and former Indian team member Harbhajan Singh
into the squad would definitely strengthen the team’s spin department in the
upcoming Indian Premier League season, pointing especially towards the slower
spin-friendly tracks of Chennai, reported PTI.

Singh, who had skipped the 2020 IPL season held in the
United Arab Emirates, was bought by KKR for his base price of Rs two crores.

Notably, he had remained unsold in the first round.

Morgan’s comment pertaining to Chennai tracks might be of
prominence, with the venue slated to be holding a total of 10 matches
throughout the tournament.

“Adding Harbhajan to our squad has strengthened us in a
really good way. When you look at our spin department as a whole, on paper,
it’s one of the best in the tournament and that’s factual.

If you look at the options that we have and the conditions
that we might play in probably particularly in Chennai, which notoriously can
turn or at least raise the eyebrows of our spinners which is hard to do”,
Morgan was quoted by PTI as saying.

Eoin Morgan was appointed captain in the middle of KKR’s IPL
campaign last year, after the team suffered a series of defeats under the
captaincy of Dinesh Karthik.

Morgan said that the squad this time was more whole-rounded
and focussed especially on the middle order.

The Kolkata-based franchise missed playoffs for a second
consecutive year in 2020.

This year, however there have been significant new additions
in the form of Shakib al Hassan and Aussie power hitter Ben Cutting, as well as
a score of fresh Indian faces.
