Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi in a new tweet on Sunday has demanded the suspension of the district magistrate at Hathras and an investigation into his role in the entire matter. This came after she, along with her brother and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, visited the family of the 19-year-old Dalit girl who died recently after being allegedly gang-raped by four men.

In a tweet in Hindi, the Congress leader said, “According to the aggrieved family, the worst treatment meted out to them was by the district magistrate. Who is trying to save him? He should be immediately suspended, and his role in the entire matter should be probed. When the family is demanding a judicial probe, then why is noise over CBI probe and SIT probe is going on.”

Bahujan Samajwadi Party supremo Mawayati also expressed concern over allegations of Hathras district magistrate threatening the deceased girl’s family.

“There have been serious allegations of the Hathras DM threatening the family of the victim. Despite this, the UP Government is maintaining silence, which is sad and extremely worrying,” Mayawati tweeted, adding, “The government has agreed for a CBI probe but with the DM staying there (Hathras), how can the matter be impartially probed? People are feeling apprehensive.”

Meanwhile, A medical team arrived at the residence of the victim of Hathras incident, on the request of Special Investigation Team (SIT) following the deterioration in the health of her father. According to ANI,  Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal also visited the alleged gangrape incident site on Sunday.
