India recorded 26,964 new COVID-19 cases and 383 deaths in the last 24 hours, data released by the Indian Health Ministry on Wednesday showed. This takes India’s COVID death to 4,45,768.
After Tuesday’s addition, India now has 3,01,989 active COVID-19 cases, which is the lowest in 185 days.
In the last 24 hours, 34,167 people recovered from the infection taking India’s total recovery numbers to 3,27,83,741
About the COVID testings, 15,92,395 samples were tested for COVID 19 on Tuesday, September 21 for examination. This takes the total sample examination numbers to 55,67,54,282, suggested by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data.
On the vaccination front, India has successfully administered 82,65,15,754 crores COVID-19 vaccines under the world largest inoculation drive.
Meanwhile, Black Fungus infection continues to wreak havoc in the southern state of Karnataka with 3,900 more cases recorded across the state on Tuesday, said Karnataka’s health minister.
Mucormycosis, also known as black fungus infections, is generally found after recovery from COVID-19, however, it has not been established yet if the infection has some direct link with COVID.
The north-eastern state of Mizoram on Tuesday registered its highest single-day spike of 1,731 new COVID-19 cases, which pushed the tally to 81,460, a health department official said.
The death toll rose to 267 as four more people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, he said.
Meanwhile, India that had put a halt on COVID vaccine export due to a shortage of doses in the country has once again resumed the shipment of vaccines under its ‘Vaccine Maitri” scheme.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Wednesday thanked India for resuming its vaccine shipments to other countries.
