Pakistan had a terrible start, scoring only 24 runs for the loss of both the openers. However, Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed then steadied the ship for Pakistan, stitching a crucial 76-run stand between them. Ahmed launched Ravichandran Ashwin for three sixes in the twelfth over to give Pakistan a much needed impetus. 

However, in the next over itself, Mohammad Shami broke the partnership, beating Ahmed for a lbw. After that, Pakistan never managed to stitch a steady partnership, as a flurry of wickets left Pakistan reeling to 120/7 from 91/3.

Hardik Pandya’s spell removed Pakistan’s middle order as he removed both Shadab Khan and Haider Ali in his 14th over. He came in the 16th over to remove Mohammad Nawaz. Arshdeep Singh continued his brilliance as he sent back Asif Ali to get his third wicket of the match.
