Jalesar assembly constituency has Sanjeev Kumar Diwakar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking on Akash Singh of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Ranjeet Suman of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Premlata of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Neelama Raj of the Congress this year in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. 

Sanjeev Kumar Diwakar had won the Jalesar seat in 2017, when the BJP swept Uttar Pradesh winning 312 of UP’s 403 assembly seats. Diwakar had beaten his closest rival Ranjeet Suman by over 19,808 votes. Ranjeet Suman had contested that election on a SP ticket.

In 2012, the seat was won by Ranjeet Suman of the SP.

Jalesar falls under the Etah district and the Agra Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of five assembly seats. 

Satyapal Singh Baghel of the BJP represented Agra as a member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Baghel defeated Manoj Kumar Soni from the BSP with a margin of 2,11,546 votes.

The Agra assembly constituency will vote in the third phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections on February 20, 2022, along with 58 other constituencies in 16 districts. Uttar Pradesh will vote in seven rounds, with the last round on March 3.
