KBC Offline Quiz (November 22, 2021): In the epic Ramayana, with which weapon did Lord Rama finally kill Ravana?

(A) Marika

(B) Sushka

(C) Prasvapna

(D) Brahmastra

Answer: (D) Brahmastra

The Brahmastra and its variations were supernatural weapons in ancient Indian
texts, collectively known as Brahma weapons. The Brahmastra was supposed to be a weapon capable of destroying the planet, destroying
creation, and defeating all beings. In Hinduism, it is one of the most
devastating, strong, and irresistible weapons. Lord Brahma created all of these
weapons.

It’s described as a flaming weapon that
erupts into a massive fireball with horrifying flames and innumerable
terrifying thunderclaps. When released, all of nature trembles, including
trees, oceans, and animals, and the sky is engulfed in flames, glaciers melt,
and mountains break, making a lot of noise.

Shri Rama uses a Brahmastra many times in
the Ramayana: once against Jayanta when he hurts Sita, once against Mareecha in
their last fight, and lastly in the final battle with the Asura monarch Ravana.
According to the Ramayana, the weapon was also directed towards Samudra (the
sea deity) in order for Rama’s army to cut a passage out of the sea so that
they could march into Lanka.

As Rama was loading the weapon, Samudra
came and volunteered to help the king cross the ocean. However, because the
Brahmastra must be discharged once invoked, it was instead directed towards
Dhrumatulya, which fell in modern-day Rajasthan, turning it into a desert for
eons. Yuddha Kanda 22 Sarga, Verse 31 mentions this occurrence.
