Kieron Pollard, on Thursday, achieved a feat that has so far
been achieved by very few. The West Indies captain
became the eighth cricketer in the sport, as well as the second cricketer in T20
cricket, to have hit a bowler for six sixes in an over.

In the opening encounter of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka at Antigua’s
Coolidge Cricket Ground, the Trinidadian’s assault helped his side to victory with four wickets and 41 balls
to spare.

Right-arm spinner Akila Dananjaya, who also picked up a
hat-trick in the same match, was thrashed around the park in West Indies’ last
over of the powerplay.

Pollard scored a total of 38 runs from 11 balls, before Sri
Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga got him dismissed.

Twitter understandably loved it, and reacted in its typical
way. From former cricketers to fans, all joined in to celebrate Pollard’s
stormy hitting spree.

Both the previous holders of the record – South Africa’s
Herschelle Gibbs and India’s Yuvraj Singh – welcomed him to the ‘club’.

“March a popular month for hitting 6x6s16/3/2007 and 3/3/2021 congrats @KieronPollard55”, tweeted
Gibbs, while Yuvaraj was not far behind.

“Welcome to the club @KieronPollard55  #sixsixes you beauty !!!”, the former Indian
all-rounder said.

Former Indian batsman and first-class veteran Wassim Jaffer highlighted
both the scenarios in the match, noting how rare it was to witness such an
event.

“Take a bow @KieronPollard55!! 666666 Vs a bowler who went
WWW in his last over!! Madness! #WIvSL”, Jaffer tweeted.

Fans were not far behind with their memes, as sneaky comparisons
and references to Yuvaraj Singh, as well as the initial satisfaction on part of
Dhananjaya began doing rounds on Twitter.

“Once I had five sixes I knew I had the bowler on the
back foot. He was going around the wicket and it was difficult for him. I just
told myself: ‘Go for it’”, the Trinidadian was quoted by AFP as saying.

Prior to the West Indies skipper, six more batsmen in the sport have accomplished the feat: Sir Garfield Sobers, Rav Shahtri, Yuvaraj Singh, Ross Whitley, Hazratullah Zazai, and Leo Carter.
