The city of Mumbai has recently seen an alarming surge of COVID-19
cases. Suresh Kakani, the additional commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation
(BMC) spoke about the corporation ready to take on any challenges the pandemic
brings forth.
He added that the city has over 30,000 hospital
beds, and currently, only 3,500 of them are occupied. All necessary medical
supplies such as oxygen cylinders, medicines, ventilators, and Intensive Care
Units are fully available. Furthermore, around 90% of people who have tested
positive are asymptomatic, thus only a small percentage of people requiring hospitalisation.
The city recorded 13,648 cases
on Monday, although many speculate the number to be much larger due to lesser testing
and at-home tests.
