Slamming the remarks by different international entities on the ongoing farmers’ protests, actor Akshay Kumar on Wednesday urged the nation to “support an amicable resolution, rather than paying attention to anyone creating differences”.

 Kumar, who is currently engaged with the shooting of ‘Atrangi Re’, retweeted and reacted to the Ministry of External Affairs’ (MEA) statement saying, “Farmers constitute an extremely important part of our country. And the efforts being undertaken to resolve their issues are evident. Let’s support an amicable resolution, rather than paying attention to anyone creating differences.”

“Ascertain facts before rushing to comment,” the MEA issued a statement on tweets by singer Rihanna and other who backed farmers’ protests. It added, “Parliament of India, after a full debate and discussion, passed reformist legislation relating to the agricultural sector. These reforms give expanded market access and provided greater flexibility to farmers.”

“Yet, it is unfortunate to see vested interest groups trying to enforce their agenda on these protests, and derail them. This was egregiously witnessed on January 26, India’s Republic Day. A cherished national commemoration, the anniversary of the inauguration of the Constitution of India, was besmirched, and violence and vandalism took place in the Indian capital,” the statement further said

It was an unprecedented statement as MEA included hashtags, namely #IndiaTogether, #IndiaAgainstPropaganda.

Various foreign entities have come out in support of the farmers’ protest against the three farm laws in India.

Calling the internet blockade at protest sites a “human rights violation”, former adult star Mia Khalifa tweeted, “What in the human rights violations is going on?! They cut the internet around New Delhi?” She also posted a picture from one of the farmers’ protests wherein a man was seen holding a placard that said, “Stop killing farmers!”

An 18-year-old environmental activist. Greta Thunberg. on Wednesday was also seen backing farmers’ protests. She tweeted, “We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India.” The tweet was both backed and criticised by sections within the country.

Tweets of international entities showcasing solidarity with the farmers have drawn a controversial debate on social media.

The farmers’ protest started on November 26 followed by numerous rounds of negotiations with the government, which failed farmers’ demand to repeal three central farm laws.

Farmers’ unions have decided to intensify their protest.
