Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Friday stated that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should either ask the Rajasthan government to resign or make them take action against the culprits who allegedly set a priest on fire in the Karauli district.

“Rahul Gandhi should take cognisance of these issues instead of going on political tours. He should either ask the Rajasthan government to resign or make efforts for its betterment. They should take action against the culprits,” Javadekar said to ANI.

On Wednesday, five accused, who wanted to encroach on temple land, allegedly poured petrol on the priest Babu Lal Vaishnav and set him on fire in Bukna village.

Describing the incident, the Minister of Environment added, “Today in Karauli, a priest of a temple was burnt alive by the goons who wanted to take possession of the land belonging to the temple. Incidents of rape are being reported from all parts of the Rajasthan.”

Earlier, former chief minister Vasundhara Raje too condemned the incident saying, “The Congress government of the state should now wake from slumber and should get the family justice by getting strict punishment to the culprits.”

Vaishnav’s family members have demanded action against the SHO, investigation by a deputy rank official, compensation and government job to a family member.
