The Monsoon Session of the Lok Sabha was adjourned sine dine by Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday.
Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State introduced the Major Port Authority Bill 2020 in the parliament on the last day of the Monsoon session. The bill was later passed by the Lower House through a voice vote on Wednesday.
Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla on Tuesday had said that the lower house of the assembly would convene at 6 pm on Wednesday. The Opposition parties boycotted the session on Tuesday protesting the suspension of 8 Rajya Sabha MPs.
The Lower House of the Parliament, however, passed four key bills on Tuesday, including labour laws of Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, the Industrial Relations Code and the Code on Social Security.
The Jammu and Kashmir official languages bill 2020, was also passed on Tuesday and will now include Kashmiri, Dogri and Hindi along with Urdu and English in the official languages of the union territory.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Rajya Sabha unanimously approved the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2020 amid protests by the Opposition. The bill makes it mandatory for the office bearers of NGOs to provide their Aadhaar numbers at the time of registration along with several other changes. The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned sine dine.
