Pratibha
Singh, Himachal Pradesh Congress chief, is the widow of former Chief Minister
Virbhadra Singh. Virbhadra Singh was Himachal chief minister for six terms. On election
day on November 12, Pratibha Singh said the Congress party has several leaders
eyeing the chief minister’s post. She further said Congress will do well in the
polls because it has worked for the welfare of the people.

Pratibha Singh?

Pratibha
Singh was born on June 16, 1956 in Himachal Pradesh capital Shimla. She and Virbhadra
Singh got married in 1985. This was Virbhadra Singh’s second marriage. Pratibha
and Virbhadra Singh have a son Vikramaditya Singh, who is in the fray in the
Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections 2022.

Pratibha
Singh won a Lok Sabha seat in 2004. She was once again elected in 2013
bye-elections.

Singh cast her
vote in Rampur, Himachal Pradesh early in the morning and said the Congress was
eying 40-45 seats in the elections. “We’d like to tell people of Himachal
Pradesh to vote for development & work. Congress always worked for
development & in the time to come only Congress can take that work forward
in the state. We’re confident of winning 40-45 seats.”

In the
Shimla Assembly constituency, the contest is four-cornered, between Congress,
BJP, AAP and the CPI(M).

In Shimla
rural, where Vikramaditya Singh is the candidate, he is up against BJP’s Ravi
Mehta and Aam Aadmi Party’s Prem Thakur. “We would like to request the people
to take Himachal forward and cast their votes in the public interest, in the
interest of Himachal Pradesh – to make it the best state in the country.”

Pratibha
Singh has been campaigning for her son Vikramaditya and Chet Ram Thakur, the
candidate up against Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.

Himachal is
voting on 68 Assembly constituencies. Results of the Himachal Pradesh elections
will be declared on December 12.
