A video captured on Christmas Island two years ago shows an enormous robber crab effortlessly slicing through a golf club. The 3-minute video was shared on Reddit this Sunday.
In the clip, a crab is seen gripping the end of a golf club. A man attempts to wrest the club from the crab, but it continues to hold on.

Christmas Island local Paul Buhner and his friends came across the crab in October 2020 and were surprised when their video recording went viral in January 2022. The video was shared by Kerry Buhner on YouTube. “Golf can be dangerous on Christmas Island. My husband Paul Buhner filmed this amazing sight during Friday Men’s Golf on Christmas Island in 2020,” Buhner wrote.

The monster crab, also known as coconut crab, is the largest terrestrial arthropod in the world. It can grow up to 3 feet and 3 inches in width and can weigh up to 4 kilograms and live till 50 years. According to Parks Australia, these crabs are colloquially called robber crabs as they carry away any foreign items they come across. The species can be found across the Indian Ocean and in parts of the Pacific Ocean. They also live off the coast of Africa.
