At
least 83 police personnel were injured on Tuesday after protesting farmers
violated the pre-agreed conditions for their Republic Day tractor rally and clashed with
police resulting in violence and vandalism in the state, said Delhi Police according to PTI.

“The
protesters violated conditions fixed for the rally. The farmers began tractor
rally before the scheduled time, they also resorted to violence and
vandalism,” Delhi Police PRO Eish Singhal said.

“We
followed all conditions as promised and did our due diligence but the protest
led to extensive damage to public property. Many policemen were also injured
during the protest,” Singhal added.

The
police statement came after thousands of protesters, who took out a rally to demonstrate against the newly enacted Central farm laws, plunged into violence after  their tractors, breaking police barricades and clashing with police at various places.

Various police officials were physically assaulted at several parade sites and a protesting farmer reportedly died after his tractor overturned.

Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police also added that legal action will be taken against those who assaulted the police personnel during the rally.

Out of the 83 police personnel who were injured in the clashes, 41 were at the Red Fort and 34 in the East District.

However, the injured, including police personnel, were taken to the LNJP Hospital following the clashes on Tuesday.

According to a senior hospital staff,  22 of the injured police officials were admitted, including an SHO and 10 other police personnel while some of them were discharged after administering first-aid.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting with senior ministry officials to take stock of the law and order situation in the capital, where the farmers’ tractor parade against farm laws turned violent.
