Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar, who ruled the Indian entertainment industry in 50s and 60s, died on Wednesday at the age of 98. He was ailing with breathing-related issues and was admitted to Khar-based Hinduja Hospital on Sunday morning after complaining of breathlessness.

“Veteran actor Dilip Kumar passes away at the age of 98, says Dr Jalil Parkar, the pulmonologist treating the actor at Mumbai’s PD Hinduja Hospital,” ANI tweeted.

The announcement of his demise was made by one of the late actor’s close friends Faisal Farooqui. “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return,” he wrote.

Ever since the news of Dilip Saab’s demise broke out, condolences and respect by fans and friends in and outside the film fraternity have been pouring in. Several fans and well-wishers from beyond the border, Pakistan, have also paid their respect to the late Dilip Saab.

Among them is a popular Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi, who took to his Twitter to mourn the death of the legendary actor.

Calling his death a huge loss to Dilip Saab’s fans, Afridi wrote, “Indeed to Allah we belong and to Allah we shall return. A huge loss for Yousuf Khan sahib’s fans from KPK to Mumbai and across the globe. He lives on in our hearts. Deepest condolences to Saira Banu Sahiba.”

Pakistani columnist and development practitioner Mosharraf Zaidi also paid his condolences on the actor’s demise. 

“Dilip Kumar’s passing feels like the closing of a chapter in which a kid from Peshawar could grow up to be beloved across time, space and “India”. I don’t think it is whimsical at all, to lament the fading away of the kind of possibilities that existed then & don’t now,” Zaidi wrote.
