Pather Panchali is a Indian Bengali-language drama film, which was released in 1955. The film was directed by Satyajit Ray and it was produced by Government of West Bengal.

The movie made its way to 1956 Cannes Film Festival. It was based on Bengali novel of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay’s novel of the same name. It was Satyajit Ray’s directorial debut.

The movie features Subir Banerjee, Kanu Banerjee, Umadas Gupta, Chunibala Devi and Karuna Banerjee. Singer Ravi Shankar composed the soundtrack for the film. it competed for the Palme d’Or at Cannes, where it won Best Human Document.
