A court has
allowed the police to conduct a narco analysis test on Shraddha Walkar murder
accused Aftab Amin Poonawala, NDTV reported. Shraddha Walkar, 26, was allegedly murdered by Aftab Poonawala, 28, in May this year after which the accused allegedly cut the deceased’s body in 35 pieces and spread them around Delhi.

The court also extended Aftab’s police custody for five days. Police said they are going to take the accused to Himachal Pradesh’s Parvati Valley for investigation. This is where the couple had holidayed before moving into Delhi from Mumbai.

Aftab Poonawala was produced before court over video link for the sake of his security over concern over his security as several lawyers were seen protesting at the court calling for the accused to be hanged.

Police are said to have obtained a confession from the accused, however, a confession does not pass legal muster without other material proof. The narco test may help fulfill that crucial gap.

Shraddha Walkar’s murder surfaced in October after her father lodged a police complaint.

Shraddha and Aftab met on dating app Bumble around three years ago. They started living together at their hometown Vasali in Mumbai. The couple moved to Delhi in May this year.

Four days after moving in, Aftab and Shraddha had an argument and Aftab allegedly strangled Shraddha to death.  He then cut up Shraddha’s body into 35 pieces and kept them in a fridge and then dumped them in a jungle over the next 18 days.

Police say Aftab’s confession has enabled them to sketch out the crime trail. DNA tests are also being conducted to check if the body parts found in the forests are indeed Shraddha’s. The process is likely to take nearly two weeks.

This is a
developing story. More details are awaited.
