Telangana has imposed a lockdown in the state from
Wednesday, May 12 starting from 6 am to 10 a.m for the period of 10 days due to
the sudden increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. The current tally of the
cases stands at 4,826 fresh COVID-19 cases and 2,771 deaths have been reported
in the southern state till today.The state government, while imposing the
lockdown, has allowed some essential services with some restrictions.

What happens to ATMs and regular banking?

Banks, which fall under the ‘essential’ category, will
operate with half of the staff strength.

Back office services of the banks,
including currency chests, ATM cash loading vendors, Core Banking Solutions
projects, offices in the data centre, data recovery centres, ATM back offices,
security operation centres for cybersecurity, service branches, clearing houses
and bank treasury offices and others facilities authorised by the head offices
of the bank will function as per normal routine.

Banks will also ensure
alternate delivery channels, when needed.

A special meeting of the State Level Bankers’
Committee was held last month to discuss measures to safeguard several hundred bank employees
against the coronavirus.

The proposal also included limited
business hours from 10 a.m to 2 p.m, and the banks to be closed by 4 p.m.
