Micro blogging site Twitter issued a statement on Monday after Jammu Kashmir was shown as a territory of the People’s Republic of China in its geotag location. “Teams have worked swiftly to investigate & resolve the concerned geotag issue,” a company spokesperson said, ANI reported.

The ‘technical error’ occurred when national security analyst Nitin Gokhale started a live broadcast on Twitter from the Hall of Fame in Leh, the location tag was marked ‘Jammu and Kashmir, People’s Republic of China’.

Flagging the issue, Gokhale tweeted, “Twitter folks, I just did a live from Hall of Fame. Giving Hall of Fame as the location and guess what it is saying Jammu & Kashmir, Peoples Republic of China! Are you guys nuts?”

On trying for a second time, it again showed the same result.

“See this Twitter! When I put Hall of Fame Leh as the location, see what it shows. I tested it deliberately,” Gokhale tweeted and tagged the official handles of Twitter, Twitter India and Twitter Support.

When he urged other users to put Leh’s Hall of Fame as the location for live broadcast, it showed the same result.

Reacting to the controversy, a Twitter spokesperson said on Monday that the company understands and respects the sensitivities around the issue, ANI reported.

“Teams have worked swiftly to investigate & resolve the concerned geotag issue,” the spokesperson added.

The incident occurred amid the India-China border standoff in eastern Ladakh.
