India qualified for the World Test Championships final against New Zealand after beating England by an innings and 25 runs on the third day of the fourth Test on Saturday, completing a 3-1 series victory.

With the championship taking place at Lord’s in June, and only limited overs cricket in between, lets take a look at what could be the best squad for India based on current form.

Rohit Sharma

Although Rohit has been in and out of Test cricket almost his entire career, his recent form indicates that he is now capable of opening for India and scoring runs in the longer format.

Shubman Gill

Despite Gill failing to make an impact in this series, it is hard to ignore his performance in the Australia series and maybe the youngster will continue his overseas form in England.

Cheteshwar Pujara

It goes beyond saying that Pujara is an integral part of the the Test squad and contributes whenever the team needs him the most. Since almost all batsmen failed to score in series, it only makes sense to consider the last series’ performance as a selection point.

Virat Kohli

Although he failed with the bat, Kohli’s captaincy was on point throughout the series. It can be expected that he will be back to playing those match-winning knocks in the WTC finals.

Ajinkya Rahane

Rahane is probably the best Test vice-captain India can get currently, which he proved in Kohli’s absence during the Australia series.

Rishabh Pant

A clear choice, Pant proved in Australia as well as at home why he is the next big thing in Indian cricket. A well deserved Man of the Match award in the last Test sealed his name for the WTC finals squad.

Washington Sundar

While Sundar fell short of four runs from his maiden Test century, the knock was enough to prove how good a batsman he is. Although he has not been able to make an impact with the ball, an all-rounder like him down the order can be helpful for India in case of top-order collapses.

Axar Patel

What a series it has been for Patel who has taken a five-wicket haul in each of the three Tests. Keeping in mind his current form, Patel is a definite choice.

Ravichandran Ashwin

The Man of the Series, Ashwin is only getting better with every match. It goes without saying that he will make the cut.

Ishant Sharma

Sharma’s overseas record is brilliant and he can be lethal in conditions in England where the ball will swing.

Jasprit Bumrah

Keeping in mind the conditions in England, star pacer Bumrah is one of the best fast bowling choices for India.
