If you’ve just started venturing into the world of the National Football League (NFL) fantasy as I have, it’s my duty to let you know that when you’re going into a draft with your mates, pick the best running backs first.

They are more valuable than Bitcoin could ever be.

But who are these point-scoring monsters that you need to target? Who is better than the other? Is there a must-have?

Well, this list of the top running backs in the game will answer a few of those questions, and for the rest, follow Opoyi for more updates on NFL Fantasy.

Here’s the list of the Top 5 running backs in NFL Fantasy:

1. Christian McCaffrey

Even if you have just been a mere follower of the fantasy world, it’s impossible not to have heard about Christian McCaffrey and his exploits

The Carolina Panthers running back has established himself as one of the best in his position and is expected to keep doing the same in the 2021-22 season.

Although Christian McCaffrey is coming off the back of an injury-hit season, he still recorded five touchdowns and a combined 374 rushing and receiving yards in three games.

Meanwhile, over the years, he has scored a total of 855.7 fantasy points at an average of 18.4 per game. His best points return was in 2019, scoring a total of 355.2 points in 16 games at an average of 22.2 per game.

2. Dalvin Cook

Playing for the Minnesota Vikings, Dalvin Cook is a talismanic figure and could be outperforming expectations in the NFL this season.

Although seasoned players have questioned his durability given his injury record, as a beginner I am more than happy with the explosiveness that he possesses. Cook has earned a PFF rushing grade of 90.9 over the last two seasons, second only to Derrick Henry, who will feature later in the list.

He finished the 2020 season third in fantasy points per game.

3. Derrick Henry

We have mentioned him before and we will keep mentioning him as Derrick Henry is a fantasy darling. He is reliable, consistent and Tennessee Titans love to feed the ball to him.

Even this season, Henry is guaranteed to have a heavy workload after getting nearly 25 carries per game in 2020.

Since the start of the 2019 season, the Titans running back has 2,758 yards after contact, almost 1,000 more than any other back in that span.

4. Alvin Kamara

Call me a fantasy noob, but I tend to have a thing for big names and big characters. And there’s no one in NFL quite like Alvin Kamara.

He has been an all-around weapon in the offense for the New Orleans Saints and has seen 100 targets and hauled in 80 catches in every season of his career.

Moreover, the Saints back has averaged over 2.0 yards per route run in his NFL career.

Alvin Kamara finished second last year in fantasy points per game at 24.2. Although the retirement of Drew Brees concern a few, I feel it will place more responsibility on Kamara in 2021.

5. Nick Chubb

The final pick of the list and another big-money baller is Cleveland Browns back Nick Chubb. Although he was injured last season, there are very few ball carriers like Chubb in the NFL.

The Georgia product has the best broken tackle rate in the NFL over the last two seasons, with 124 broken tackles on 488 carries.

Although injuries hampered his 2020 campaign, Nick Chubb still rushed for over 1,000 yards while averaging 5.6 yards per attempt.
