India’s Annu Rani finished seventh in the women’s javelin throw final on Day 8 of the World Athletics Championships at Eugene, Oregon. Her best throw was 61.12m.
Annu threw 56.18 metres to start her finals campaign, and she then went on to throw 61.12 metres. Her second throw was still the best of the night because she failed to hit the target on her last four tries.

Rani then placed in the top-8 and had three additional attempts with a day’s best of 61.12 metres. She barely finished in seventh place with times of 56.18, 61.12, 59.27, 58.14, 59.98, and 58.70.
Australia’s Kelsey-Lee Barber won the gold with a huge throw of 66.91 metres, while Japan’s Haruka Kitagichi won the silver medal with a throw of 63.27 metres, giving her country its first medal in a javelin event at the World Championships.

She was placed in Group B in the qualification round at Hayward Field and her best effort measured 59.60m in her third and final attempt. Annu’s first attempt was a foul while her second landed at 55.35m.
“The first throw was not good, and I fouled,” Annu Rani told Circle of Sport at the time. “The second was 55m, and then slowly the body started warming up.

“I was nervous for the last throw because I could have fouled and not made the cut, but I went ahead and made the attempt. I am not happy. I didn’t do well. But I have reached the final, so I’ll try to do well there,” Annu Rani said.
The athlete holds the national record with 63.82m, which she measured at the Indian Open Javelin Throw Competition in May.
