Bangladesh Cricket Board, on Monday, said that they will investigate the team’s underwhelming performances in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Mahmadullah and company lost all five matches in the Super 12 stage and finished at the bottom of Group 1. Their campaign had opened with a defeat to Scotland in the preliminary round.

“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formed a committee to review the National Team’s performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in Oman and UAE. The members of the committee are BCB Directors Enayet Husain Siraj and Mohammed Jalal Yunus,” the press release read.

The Bangla Tigers qualified for the Super 12 courtesy of wins against Oman and Papua New Guinea. However, they were then bowled out twice for less than 100 in their last two matches.

“The committee has been entrusted with taking the views of Bangladesh squad members (Players and Team Management) and relevant stakeholders to assess why the team could not deliver the expected performance in the event and share its findings with the Board,” the release added.

Australia dismissed Bangladesh for 73 runs in their final match. Aaron Finch and company then chased the target in 38 balls. Commentator and retired Australian batting great Mark Waugh called the Asian team’s performance “embarrassing”.

“Bangladesh offered nothing with the bat. That is an embarrassing display. It’s supposed to be the T20 World Cup and you wouldn’t find that in third grade in the park,” he said on Fox Television.

Former BCB chief Saber Hossain Chowdhury said, “Bangladesh has now played four World Cups under Mr Papon, things have gone from bad to worse.”

Nazmul Hassan “Papon” had succeeded Chowdhary.

“It’s always someone else’s fault (that) he has run our cricket to the ground,” the former chief added.

Please correct the process without damaging the players,” former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza wrote on Facebook.  The Tigers are assured of a place in the Super-12 phase of the next T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022.
