San Francisco 49ers fans on social media hailed quarterback Brock Purdy as Tom Brady 2.0 after his touchdown in the NFL wildcard game against the Seattle Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium on Saturday.
Purdy, who was Mr. Irrelevnt in the 2022 NFL Draft, has impressed with the 49ers since becoming a regular starter after the 49er’s first-choice quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo got injured. As he got a start against the Seahawks on Saturday, he became the first rookie quarterback ever to be featured in a playoff game as a starter.
“Really looking forward to the Brock Purdy, Trevor Lawrence match-up in the Super Bowl. Mr. Irrelevant against a former #1 overall pick. It’s gonna be good TV,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Deebo Samuel in the backfield, Christian McCaffrey out wide. This offense is so much fun. I am a fan of Brock Purdy in this offense, but if the #49ers make a Super Bowl run, it will because of the offensive weapons and the #1 defense,” another said.
“Let’s imagine, and it would not be difficult to do, that Brock Purdy leads the 49ers to a Super Bowl victory. Would that mean he would be the starting quarterback next year?” a third one wondered.
“I almost want Brock Purdy to win a Super Bowl just so I can mock how much talent Matt Campbell wasted,” another one said.
“Also, it would be the first time a rookie QB has ever won a Super Bowl. There cannot be a bigger underdog QB draft story than Brock Purdy, since he was the last pick in the draft,” said one.
Another fan came up with an idea of a commercial if Purdy wins the Super Bowl.
The fan said: “I’m calling it right now if the 49ers win the Super Bowl there’s gonna be a commercial of Brock Purdy with the words “Mr. Irrelevant” at the top of the screen and it will end with Purdy hoisting the Lombardi trophy and blocking out the “Ir”.
