When Royal Challengers Bangalore entered the field against Punjab Kings in their first game of the Indian Premier League 2022 competition, two things fans missed the most were Virat Kohli walking in for the toss and AB de Villiers being part of the playing XI.

Mr 360 was missed in the middle order when the new skipper, Faf du Plessis, played a captain’s knock after they were asked to bat first. Last year, the explosive cricketer declared his retirement from all forms of the game, bringing an end to an era at RCB.

The connection between the two all-time greats of the game would be a positive indicator of RCB’s chances in the tournament. AB de Villiers, who will not play in the IPL 2022, has been a vital part of the RCB side for many years and it appears like his countrymate Faf – will fill the position nicely.

Despite putting on a massive 205/2, RCB lost the match.
