As Spanish giants FC Barcelona continue to have financial woes, amidst uncertainty over registering new players, veteran defender Gerard Pique has agreed to take yet another pay cut to help the club. The centre-back’s willingness will help FC Barcelona in their quest to register their new players from this summer transfer window.

According to The Athletic, the LaLiga giants held meetings with the senior personalities in the dressing room, where they proposed further reduction in salary. Financial instability has plagued FC Barcelona since their new president Joan Laporta came to power, however, even he could not help club legend Lionel Messi to leave as a free agent, being unable to hand him a new contract.

It was also Gerard Pique, whose decision to take a salary reduction helped Barcelona to register forward Memphis Depay and defender Eric Garcia, who had come in from Olympique Lyonnais and Manchester City. Apart from Pique, other senior players such as Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Samuel Umtiti also agreed to reduce their wages, which helped the club to register striker Sergio Aguero and forward Ferran Torres.
