A 66-year-old Spanish teacher named Nohema Graber was killed by two Iowa teenagers on November 2, 2021, for giving bad grades.

A life sentence with the possibility of parole after 35 years in jail was handed down to one of the two teens from Iowa who admitted to beating their high school Spanish instructor to death with a baseball bat.

Who was Nohema Graber?

Nohema Graber was a 66-year-old Spanish teacher at a high school. She was killed by two Iowa teens, identified as Willard Miller and Jeremy Goodale. The teens have pleaded guilty in the case. They attacked the 66-year-old while she was on her regular afternoon walk at a park in Fairfield.

The judge recently sentenced Willard Miller in the case on Thursday. Prior to the sentencing, Miller said in court on Thursday that he took responsibility for the crime and apologized to the Graber family.

Millier said, “I would like to apologize for my actions, first and foremost to the family. I am sincerely sorry for the distress I have caused you and the devastation I have caused your family.”

Under the terms of the plea agreement, prosecutors had pointed to a prison sentence ranging from 30 years to life with the possibility of parole for Miller. Goodale’s sentencing is scheduled for a later date.

During Thursday’s sentencing hearing at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Fairfield, investigators provided details about the discovery of Graber’s body. The hearing also discussed the social media posts that raised suspicion and ultimately led to the arrest of Miller and Goodale. The prosecution showed pictures of the crime scene, including horrific photos of Graber’s body, and played recordings of the youths’ police interrogations.

During testimony, Goodale stated that he and Miller had planned the killing for approximately two weeks. He revealed that both of them struck the victim and subsequently concealed her body. Goodale claimed that Miller had been the one to initiate the plan.
