Indian limited-overs skipper Rohit Sharma and his predecessor Virat Kohli are among the best batters white-ball cricket has seen in recent history. While the ‘run machine’ Kohli scored at an extraordinary rate and racked up the records, Sharma’s eligance and strokeplay, coupled with the ability to notch the big tons, set him apart.

The two have also shared a considerable amount of time on the crease together and are now on the verge of reaching a major milestone as a pair. Sharma and Kohli are eighth on the list of most ODI runs scored in partnerships with 4,906 runs. The duo is 94 away from becoming the eighth pair in ODI history to complete 5,000 runs as a pair.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are the other Indian pair on the list of 5,000-run partnerships – with the two having scored 5,023 runs in 112 innings at an average of 45.25.

However, Kohli and Sharma will be the fastest to complete 5,000 runs in partnership, having scored 4,906 runs in just 81 innings at an average of 64.55 runs. Every other pair in the list have taken more than 100 innings to reach the landmark.
