Two of the 23 members of the Indian cricket team, currently touring England, tested positive for COVID-19 and while one has recovered the other is in home isolation, according to news agency ANI. He is quarantining at a relatives home, reports added.

Though there is no official word from the BCCI on the issue yet, a source told the news agency on condition of anonymity, “Luckily, there is nothing to worry as one of the players has already tested negative since testing positive, the other player will be tested on Sunday and is currently in isolation”

The news comes days after BCCI secretary Jay Shah sent an e-mail to the touring Indian contingent, warning it about the rising cases of COVID-19. The side is to reassemble at Durham in a bio-bubble ahead of the Test series against England next month.

 According to reports, the player in isolation had complained of sore throat and was tested for COVID, which returned positive. Following the positive test, all the players and other members of the squad who had come in contact with the player were also kept in isolation for three days.

Earlier last week, before the start of the ODI series, the England Cricket Board had confirmed that seven members of their squad had tested positive.

Even the Sri Lanka team had a COVID scare after the England – Sri Lanka series. There was a Covid outbreak in the Lankan camp when they returned home. This led to a delay in the limited-overs series against India.

Earlier  in May, the IPL had to be suspended in the wake of an unprecedented surge in COVID cases in India.
