Mahendra
Singh Dhoni
likes to keep under the radar. The former Indian captain usually
stays away from the media spotlight and is not one to post his daily activities
on his social media handles. The Ranchi-born cricketer is now passing on those
traits to the youngsters in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team.

In an interview
with the Times of India, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s coach Sandeep Chavan said that Dhoni has advised
the young batsman to stay away from social media as much as possible. “Apart
from batting tips, how to handle pressure, and accelerating the run rate,
Dhoni’s advice of staying away from social media to Ruturaj has worked well for
him. Dhoni also tells Ruturaj that success and failure are both part of the
process, so, always back your game, no matter what people say,” Chavan
told TOI.

Gaikwad has
flourished under Dhoni’s tutelage in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, scoring 521 runs from 13 innings
at an average of 47.36, including three fifties and a magnificent ton. The
24-year-old became the youngest batsman in the franchise’s history to score a
century, although his unbeaten 101 from 60 deliveries against the Rajasthan
Royals went in vain.

But Gaikwad
has also forged a formidable opening partnership with veteran South African batsman
Faf du Plessis for CSK, with the duo becoming the highest-scoring openers for
the franchise in a single season. And Chavan has praised CSK’s ‘Captain Cool’ and
other senior players for nurturing Gaikwad into the batsman he is today.

“The confidence to score freely has been injected by MS Dhoni in
Ruturaj. Apart from Dhoni, Raina and Rayudu have really been helping him. All
the credit should be given to Dhoni and the CSK team…. They won’t let you feel
that you had a bad outing in the middle. That’s the best thing about CSK,” he
added.
