Wanindu Hasaranga registered figures of 18/5 in four overs, including a two-wicket maiden, against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match by 67 runs.

Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Jagadeesha Suchith, Shashank Singh and Umran Malik were the Sri Lankan players’ preys. With the fifer, he climbed to the second spot of the purple cap charts. He now has 21 wickets this season, one behind Rajasthan Royals’ Yuzvendra Chahal.

Breaking down Hasaranga’s fifer:

Wanindu Hasaranga was bought into the attack in the ninth over when the Sunrisers Hyderabad were going at 50/2. Rahul Tripathi (29) and Aiden Markram (21) had bought up a fifty-run stand.

The Sri Lankan got rid of Markram on the second ball of his first over in the game. A floated delivery  around middle and leg was tempting enough for the South African to go down on is knee and play a slogsweep. However, he hit it to Virat Kohli at mid-wicket.

Hasaranga was then bought back in the 12th over, after an 18-ball break. SRH were 89/3 and needed 104 runs off 48 balls. Nicholas Pooran (19 off 13) had started looking settled. The 24-year-old delivered a flighted ball, this time a googly, to remove the danger man. The West Indies ODI skipper cleared his front leg and shaped up to slog it over mid-wicket but lost his shape only to find the outside edge. Shahbaz Ahmed took a sharp catch diving forward at short third man.

In his third over, Hasaranga foxed J Suchith with a slower wrong un. The batter shimmied down the track but the ball spun past his outside edge. Dinesh Karthik took care of the formalities.

Wanindu Hasaranga was brought for his last over in the 17th. The leg-spinner, a ball after a DRS call went against him, invited Shashank Singh down the track only to see the batter get no elevation and Glenn Maxwell take a catch at long-on.

On the very next ball, Hasaranga’s wrong un, full in length, hit Umran Malik on the pad, just in front of stumps. DRS showed that it was clipping leg.
