Jalen Hurts has now become the highest-paid player in NFL history after signing a five-year extension with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday. The Eagles and Hurts have agreed on a five-year extension for $225 million after a successful season for the quarterback.

The deal comprises a no-trade clause and has around $180 million in guaranteed money.

Last season, Hurts led the Eagles to the No. 1 seed in the NFC and was denied his first Super Bowl success after a comeback from Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City Chiefs.

According to additional details on NFL, Hurts’ contract includes $110 million fully guaranteed at signing, incentives that can earn him around $275 million through 2028, including the amount he is owed through the remaining of his rookie contract and the first no-trade clause in Eagles history.

The contract extension comes after a season in which Hurts completed 66.5% of his passes for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns to six interceptions. He rushed for 760 yards and another 13 scores as he led the Eagles to the Super Bowl. The contract pays Jalen around $51 million per year on average.

The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the best young talents. He was unlikely not to finish last season with a Super Bowl trophy.

Of the $255 million, $179.3 million is guaranteed money, which makes him surpass Aaron Rodgers as the highest-paid quarter in the league. The deal increases pressure on both the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles as Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow are awaiting extensions.
