JJ Watt, Arizona Cardinals defensive end, tweeted on Sunday
that he had his “heart shocked back in rhythm” three days ago after he went
into atrial fibrillation or A-Fib.

He tweeted this only a few hours before his team played the
Carolina Panthers in Week 4 of NFL 2022. Watt said he would be “playing today.”

The 33-year-old said he had learnt that personal information about him would be made public, apparently opting to share news about his heart procedure himself.

“I was just told somebody leaked some personal information
about me and it’s going to be reported on today. I went into A-Fib on
Wednesday, had my heart shocked back into rhythm on Thursday and I’m playing
today. That’s it,” Watt tweeted.

An atrial fibrillation is described as an irregular or fast
heartbeat called arrhythmia, which can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart
failure or  other heart-related
complications.

Sports Illustrated quoted Cardinals sources as saying that
Watt visited a doctor on Wednesday after he felt dizzy, and was referred to a
cardiologist. Watt was checked by multiple cardiologists after Thursday’s
procedure and was cleared to practice on Friday, the Sports Illustrated report
said.

It said Watt underwent a cardioversion procedure which
corrects cardiac arrhythmia.
