Days after Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa showed signs of neurological damage on pitch, Arizona Cardinals defensive end JJ Watt said he had his heart shocked into rhythm after going into atrial fibrillation this week. The 33-year-old added that the health scare will not sideline him Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

Watt, in a tweet, added that his leaked personal information will be reported on Sunday. Watt was listed as active for the game vs Carolina.

The three-time NFL Defensive Player said, “I was just told somebody leaked some personal information about me and it’s going to be reported on today. I went into A-Fib on Wednesday, had my heart shocked back into rhythm on Thursday and I’m playing today. That’s it.”

Fans were quick to react to Watt’s revelation, saying that the league and teams have to start taking care of their players. On Thursday, Tua was slammed to the ground. He displayed a fencing response. He lifted his hands with stiffened fingers. According to the TNF broadcast crew, this motion is a neurological response to head trauma.

The Miami quarterback was then taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The team said that the 24-year-old sustained head and neck injuries. In Week 3, Tua seemed disoriented after falling on his head. However, he returned after half-time and started in Week 4 too.

The Dolphins were criticised by social media users and experts for letting Tua play. The neurotrauma consultant involved in clearing the star player for the Sunday game has been fired, a league source told NFL.

However, after Watts’ tweet, fans have started questioning the league’s handling of players. The Cardinals had posted a video of Watt walking into Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium in a sweat suit on Sunday.

They reported Watt did not practice on Wednesday and Thursday and was limited on Friday. He was listed as questionable due to a calf injury and an illness.

“Hard to see everyone have their pitchforks ready for Tua playing 4 days after a concussion but revere JJ Watt playing 3 days after HAVING TO GET HIS HEART SHOCKED BACK TO NORMAL ???????,” a Twitter user said.

“I feel like given the Tua discussion this week that maybe JJ Watt shouldn’t play after revealing that? That’s scary as shit,” another one added.

“JJ Watt saw Tua playing while concussed and said Hold My Beer #FootballIsRidiculous #NFL,” a third one said.

Some social media users, however, said that Tua and JJ Watt’s situations should not be compared.

“I’m seeing a lot of comparisons with JJ Watt being allowed to play after his cardioversion to Tua’s being allowed to play after his concussion. The two aren’t even remotely similar.”

“the tua issue is still v different from jj watt, even tho they both share the gladiator mentality of play at any cost.”

The 33-year-old Watt is a five-time All-Pro and the 2017 Walter Payton Man of the Year.
