With the Indian Premier League (IPL) scheduled to start on September 19, the fixtures for the tournament are out. The yearly carnival of cricket will be conducted in the United Arab Emirates in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab will begin their IPL 2020 with a face-off against Delhi Capitals on September 20. Both the teams will be itching to end their trophy drought this season.
The best result for the Punjab-side came in 2014, where they finished as runners up. They played a brand of cricket that entertained and got the attention of the entire cricketing fraternity. In the final, facing Kolkata Knight Riders, even after putting up a massive target of 199, aided by Wriddhiman Saha’s gallant 115, Punjab failed to defend the total and lost out on their golden opportunity to lift the trophy.
This year, after spending Rs. 26.20 crore on nine players in the December auction, the franchise has put together a formidable side — the highlights being the purchase of Glenn Maxwell for a whopping Rs 10.75 crore and roping in West Indian fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell for Rs 8.50 crore.
