Louisiana Tech linebacker Brevin Randle was suspended indefinitely on Saturday. This response came after an incident in which Randle appeared to stomp on the head of UTEP offensive lineman Steven Hubbard during the Bulldogs-Miners game on Friday night. Notably, there was no penalty called on the field for the event, which happened following a play in the second quarter.

Louisiana Tech Athletic Director, Eric Wood, stated, “Coach Cumbie and I met with Brevin Randle today and informed him that he is subject to an indefinite suspension due to the incident from last night’s game against UTEP. Brevin acknowledged the wrongdoing in his deeds and understood the consequences. The culture, class, and competitive excellence principles upheld by our college, athletic department, and football team were not evident at that specific time.”

After the play was over, Randle started pushing Hubbard while he was on the ground. He then stood up and used his right leg to stamp on Hubbard’s head and neck area. The entire occurrence was missed by the officials because they were preoccupied with identifying who had control of the football.

In the end, Louisiana Tech defeated UTEP 24-10 to improve their season record to 3-3. There have been no confirmed updates on Hubbard’s condition after the event as of yet.

Although Randle avoided receiving a penalty on Friday, his actions garnered harsh criticism from both his own school and the CBS broadcast team, who saw him trample on Hubbard while he was still on the ground.

Randle, a native of Stephen F. Austin who played for the Lumberjacks for four years, has contributed in his debut season with the Bulldogs by recording 46 tackles and two sacks over the course of six games.
