In the 2022 Asia Cup clash on Sunday, Hardik Pandya led India to a five-wicket victory over Pakistan. Pandya’s ferocious short-pitches helped India restrict Pakistan to 147. The all-rounder made 33 runs off 17 balls to take India to victory with two balls remaining.

During the toss, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won, electing to bowl first. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4-26),  took the crucial wickets of Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman during the batting powerplay, proving that India’s plan to use short balls to attack the Pakistani top order was a success.

Pandya then quickly dispatched the middle of the order, including top scorer Mohammad Rizwan (43) with another quick bouncer. To offer Pakistan some hope, Shahnawaz Dahani hammered two late sixes. With one ball left in the inning, Dahani was the final man out.

Shaheen Shah Afridi was hurt, but Pakistan’s backup fast bowlers still dominated India’s potent top order. KL Rahul was bowled for a golden duck by Naseem Shah, while Kohli was caught on zero by Zaman at second slip after the 19-year-old pacer’s excellent first over.

Before the Indian captain and Virat Kohli, who struck 35 off 34 balls, both holed out at long off in consecutive deliveries from left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz, Rohit Sharma scored 12 off 18 balls.

Suryakumar Yadav was clean bowled by Shah, who finished with 2-27 on his T20 debut. However, Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja prevented the game from slipping away with their 52-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
