Xavier Gipson, a rookie with the New York Jets, electrified the crowd by returning a punt an amazing 65 yards for a touchdown on Monday Night Football. The Buffalo Bills were defeated 22-16 due to this outstanding play.

At the Jets’ 35-yard line, Gipson calmly caught the punt and quickly swerved to the left. He outran the Bills’ covering unit thanks to his tremendous speed, eventually crossing the goal line for the game-winning score.

Gipson attended Woodrow Wilson High School and was raised in Dallas, Texas. He was rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports, which placed him as the nation’s 24th-best wide receiver. He accepted Stephen F. Austin’s invitation to play collegiate football despite receiving offers from prestigious universities like SMU, North Texas, and UTSA.

Gipson had a successful four-year career at Stephen F. Austin, where he was named to the first team of the Southland Conference three times. With 2,498 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns at the end of his college career, he had remarkable numbers.

He was selected by the Jets in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Amazingly, as a rookie, he managed to land a position on the Jets’ roster and has played in all four games of the current campaign, compiling 10 receptions for 102 yards.

Gipson is a young pro with the potential to have a big impact on the Jets. He stood out because of his prowess as a route runner and his amazing speed and acceleration. He is also a standout punt returner, demonstrating his flexibility on the field.
