After getting to an early lead, courtesy of a TD pass from the team’s QB Marcus Marriots to tight end MyCole Pruitt, the Falcons were facing the 49ers in their second drive of the game at SF’s 21-yard line. The first two passes of this drive were completed for a total of nine yards and the team had a 3rd and 1 opportunity. This is when QB Jimmy Garoppolo decided to give the ball to his running back instead of passing it.
RB Jeffrey Wilson took the ball in between of a crowded Falcons’ defense to complete the down, but instead, he lost the ball following pressure from the opposition’s defense.
Falcons’ cornerback A.J. Terrell ran with the fumbled football towards the San Francisco end zone. As he was just about to complete the play, he too dropped the ball following a snap on his right hand by tight end George Kittle. The ball, however, fell into the end-zone and was picked up by safety Jaylinn Hawkins to complete the play.
